12 de mayo de 2020, 13:12Hanoi, May 12 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam is expected to ratify EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) on May 20, official sources confirmed on Tuesday.

The necessary steps have been taken for the 14th session of the National Assembly to approve the two documents on that day, the head of the Multilateral Commercial Politics Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Luong Hoang Thai, said.

The leaders of the Communist Party, the State and the National Assembly have repeatedly expressed their determination to ratify the two deals as soon as possible.

On February 12, the European Parliament ratified the EVFTA with 407 votes in favor, 188 against and 53 abstentions, and the EVIPA with 401-192-40, a result that Vietnam interpreted as a clear sign of the EU’s confidence in the country’s economy and its integrationist capacity.

The two agreements were signed in Hanoi in June 2019.

A joint declaration issued at the time described the EVFTA as ‘the most ambitious free trade agreement between the EU and an emerging economy’, and noted that it was based on the mutual commitment to moving towards ‘commercial liberalization and open, fair and regulated economic integration’.
