In the wake of an outbreak of bird flu in Madhya Pradesh, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Wednesday held an emergency meeting at his residence with senior officials and decided to stop poultry business and trade of other birds with certain states of south India for limited period of time to check the disease spread.

The Centre on Wednesday said Avian Influenza, or the bird flu outbreak, has been reported at 12 epicentres in four states — Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh — and advisories have been issued to contain further spread of the infection in poultry ducks, crows and migratory birds.

50-year-old woman gang-raped, murdered in UP’s Badaun
- A 50-year-old woman was gang-raped and brutally murdered allegedly by a priest and two others in Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Wednesday.
- The attack on the woman took place on Sunday when she had gone to a temple, they said, adding that all three accused have been booked, and two of them arrested on Tuesday.
BharatPe to raise over Rs 5,000 cr in debt funding

Global economy to expand by 4% in 2021: World Bank

AIADMK leader among three held in Pollachi sexual assault case
- Three more people, including an AIADMK functionary, were on Wednesday arrested by the CBI in connection with a case of sexual harassment of women by a gang in nearby Pollachi in 2019. All of them were produced before the Mahila court here, which remanded them to 14 days judicial custody, police said.
- The matter came to light in February 2019 after a 19-year old woman student had lodged a complaint with the police alleging that a gang of four men had tried to strip her inside a car, shot a video of the act and blackmailed her using the visuals.
- The gang was believed to have sexually harassed and blackmailed a large number of women in Pollachi over a period of time.

- Republican incumbent David Perdue has taken the lead in the Georgia Senate race that will decide whether Republicans retain control of the upper chamber with more than 61 per cent of counties/precincts reporting, official results show.
- The results showed Perdue leading Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff 50.48 – 49.52 per cent with 61.01 per cent of precincts reporting.

Bird Flu: 2,403 birds dead in Himachal
- With over 2,400 birds dead so far in Himachal Pradesh, the state has been put on high alert for avian influenza and officials are monitoring the situation according to state forest minister Rakesh Pathania.
- “As many as 2,403 birds have died so far. We expect that this number will grow. We are on high alert and monitoring the situation very carefully,” Pathania told ANI.
